The Big 40 Nested Interlocking Flap card - video too!

Today I am sharing a card I made for my July classes.  It features the Big Celebrations stamp set from A*muse Studio - which happens to be on sale thru the end of the month!  Here are the products I used - all available in my online store at http://www.amusestudio.com/heather

The cool thing about this card is how it opens - it is a standard Gatefold card - but when you open it - Voila!  The nested shapes come apart and go to seperate sides - interlocking the card flaps when closed.

Here is my video tutorial - short and sweet!

 

For those of you who do not want to watch the video here it is in plain english - hopefully understandable!  I started by cutting the navy frame - take any Nestabilities shape and pick 2 sizes that are atleast 2 sizes apart - in other words there is one that fits in between them.  Use those two to cut a frame of your desired shape.  Now take the smaller of the two and cut another shape with it.  This is your nesting shape - because it fits perfectly into the center of the frame you cut first.

Next you will make a gatefold card - Take a regular card piece and before you fold it score a line at 2 1/8 from the left side and the right side (along the short end) If you have a scorpal you will simply score at the two DOTS on the measureing line. 

Now you will simply attach your frame to the left side of the gatefold and your inside nesting shape to the right side of the gatefold.  The easiest way to get the nesting shape perfectly inside is to attach the fram first - then CLOSE your card before adhering your shape - this way you can use the frame to determine where it needs to attach.   Be sure that you only apply adhesive on HALF of your shapes - otherwise you will glue your cards together!

Clear as mud?  Hopefully the video helps!

Card for sketch 129 - finally!

So did you think I was EVER gonna get to the last sketch?  It is funny because I have actually made three cards for it now!  The first I did and was all ready to post it when I realized the stamp was a retired stamp!  I know I could still use it - but I wanted to try again.  So about a week later I got back to it and designed another card that well - Towanda was having a field day with!  :-)  So I put off posting again.  Today is the start of a NEW day right?  I started fresh and finally came up with a card that I like and want to show you!  Be sure to add your link to the blog hop if you give the sketch a try!

My card is soft and girly - and I just love it! I colored very simply with the copic markers - you do not always have to do all the blending and complicated stuff!  I also highlighted with the crystal stickles - which always finishes off a card just right!

The image is WAY intimidating - but it really was easy to color once you figure out what is what in her hair.  Executive decisions are in order!  Here is a clopse up of the coloring where you can see the squiggle background better:

I have lingered on this sketch for so long because I was actually using it for a swap that I am in - but I can finally release it! Not that it is some big hairy secret or anything!

I was inspired for this card by a card you can see here.  I just loved the way the butterfly popped in the orange on the blue green background.    That set is one of my fav's - Happily Grateful - the leafy background alone is so useful!  I embossed the ivory card with an impressabilities - Floral and Stone - love that added texture.  To get the graduated color from Cote D'azure to Burnt umber I just used 2 different sponges and started from opposite ends.  I like how soft it is and it does create a nice background for the butterfly.  I colored the butterfly with 2 copic markers - Y38 and YR68.

Shabby Chic Feel Better Flowers - plus blog candy for your opinion!

I made this card a few weeks agao when I had that card making spree on a sunday - I made some super cute cards that day if I do say so myself!  This one I have been hanging onto because I LOVE it so much!  I CASED it from somewhere but of course I waited so long now I can't remember from where!  So if this card looks familiar - please let me know so I can link to you!  I was on a dictionary page kick for awhile - ok so I am not over it!  I still have lots of pages left - and just got some yummy sheet music too (thanks Helen!)  Anyway - here is the card...

 
I know I know - it is the bomdigity huh!?!?  LOL!  Here is an upclose...

 
The flowers are embossed in white on black cardstock - then I freehand cut the stems and leaves out of the green Sands of Time pattern paper.  I stamped one of the Victorian Elements onto a dictionary page with Noir Palette ink and inked the edges for an aged toile look.  I added the strip of Bazzill Border jumbo scallop to the bottom edge - LOVE that stuff so much I cannot bring myself to use it very often - KWIM??  It is an illness...

Did someone say Blog Candy??  Yes I did say Blog Candy!  I was just curious and wanted to get as many opinions as possible - so I thought I would bribe you all!  I have TONS of extra rubber - NEW stamp sets from the past and present - that I will pack up into grab bags - one for every 25 comments.  So to increase the odds be sure to tell your friends to come on over and let me know what they think.  k?

Monday Card Sketch 109

Did you notice I had a little number confusion on my sketches the last few weeks?  Probably not - but I am getting it all straight I think!  I got excited about last weeks sketch and wanted to do it before this one is all!

I am loving the Catelynn papers this spring!  I p[aired them up again with cardstock from Mia's Cottage Collection and sanded the edges to make them pop a bit more.  I am still learning with the Copic's - Having fun!  Here is a detail shot.

For the sky i scribbled on the lightest blue color and then scribbled over top with the Colorless blender.  I don't know if that is an dofficial technique or not but it is how I like to do my sky!

I almost forgot.....  here is the blog candy just waiting to go out to one lucky Sketch player!

So spring break is over - and I am so happy to report that I FINALLY got those darn taxes off my to do list.  Now I can start bugging my husband to see if he has finished them yet!  LOL!  I have of course vowed to keep better records this year - and since it is already March I have the first 3 months atleast  taken care of.  Now to maintain that order and organization for the whole year.... UGH!  The best part about having that all done is the difference it made in my studio!  I can actually see the pink cutting mat on my studio table - AND I cleaned it!  I even shot my next TAC-nique video which I will be editing and getting out this week.   FUN stuff I tell ya!

Monday Sketch 80, Christmas Planner and BLOG CANDY!

Wow 80 sketches!    How OZ-some is that?   I have had so much fun with these sketches over the last 2 years - especially seeing what you all do with them!  Join the fun and post a linky to your card so we can all see - and link back to here too!

This weekends Christmas in July class was SO much fun!  I did a series of purple Christmas cards for the card stack using the Bazzill Purples.  It was a challenge but they turned out great!  The Christmas Planner was a huge hit!  I sold out of kits but may do up a few more.  In fact I was considering offering it as a class at the next Crop-a-ganza event (that is IF they can still squeeze me in as a vendor!!!)   The keychain was my FAVORITE project though.  A little guardian angel watching over you.  I will share pictures of everything soon - here is a sneak peak of the cover of the planner:
