These little suckers are SO cool! I just love them - they are a great way to show off your kiddo's, your hobby, or even just to mark your bag.
Take your stamp box and cut the lid off. You will want to cut it along the fold of the lid.
I am working with a GWP size box. The size for your "page" will be 2 3/4 x 2 1/2. You can do it long ways or wide ways - it is up to you. Just remember that the tag will hang from your bag and keep that in mind when you design your page.
Start by decorating your "page". Round the corners - I found the McGill corner rounder matches perfectly! (we carrued it in the TAC catalog last year)
You will want to keep all your 3d embellishments about 1/8 inch in from the sides. Once you have your design completed and your picture added you will be gluing this to the rim on the back of the lid. One side has a recessed grove and the other has a raised rim. Because we are applying the page on top of this rim you will create a shadow box type of tag - so you can actually put stuff inside too! Beads glitter flowers etc.
Take your stamp box lid and apply glue to the rim of the lid. I use our Designer Dries Clear glue - as it comes with a nice tip for this application and it dries totally clear so if you get a little smudge or 2 it will not show. You can pout it right on the rim from the bottle - or if you do not mind getting a little messy - I found the best way is to put a puddle of glue on your finger tip and then run your finger along the side of the rim. This will deposit the perfect amount of glue right where you want it - on the top of the rim.
Once you have the entire glue loaded with glue you are going to place your page face down onto the rim.
Run a finger along the edge to make sure that it is all stuck down and wipe off any excess. If you get glue on your fingers you can just rub them together and the glue will bead up and rub right off. No mess at all! It is pretty cool.
When you finish your page will be behind the plastic of the lid and all will be enclosed:
Let your tote tag dry a little while before strapping onto a tote. I put a book ring on mine - but you can use Luggage loops, ribbon or anything you can scrounge up to attach it to a bag.
Here are a few other examples of different things I have done with this same idea. Here is a game with BB's inside - you know you move it around and balance all the balls in a hole to win. what fun!
Here is a Dry Erase Board - it works pretty slick! I ordered pens from dryerase.com and also from godryerase.com and they are both great. (godryerase.com has the clear pen holders too) The writing just wipes off with a paper towel!
And here is a monogram tage that we did as a make and take at the Diva Crop in Topeka in January:
And a different tags with a pic:
