Trip to Ohio - no sketch this week

I made a surprise trip to Ohio - I will not be back home to blog til after this week!  My nephew Ethan graduated from Fairless High School yesterday and I got to go to my Alma Mater to see him.  The kids and I are in Navarre at my Moms - and having a blast!  Today we are staying home this morning til the parade at 1  then we are gonna head to the Canton Park and the Mckinnley Monument.  I used to LOVE to  play at that park!!!  If I get a good picture on my phone i might be able to figure out how to blog it again...

I had specifically thought to use the bird as my 2 1/2 inch element on this card sketch with his body popped up on a pop dot.  The rest of the card just fell together!  I got the idea for this scallop border ahile ago from Laurie Willison - it is SUCH a cute idea!   (Thanks for the inspiration Laurie!)  I colored the bird with the Jewel tone chalks with a blender pen - such a easy way to color!  I always reccomend the chalks and blender to new stampers as a starter kit for coloring because it is a very good value for lots of color and technique options.

Today?  I should be at bible study this morning - but I am playing hookey.  I know, I know - naughty naughty!  I will be heading in to town for lunch with Eric's grandparents and then hopefully to get a little shopping done!

It's sketch #74

I have something very specific in mind for today's sketch - hopefully I will be able to get it out today!  I am off and running this morning finalizing preparations for VBS decorations! 

Our surprise party for Eric's parents went great - we even pulled off a TOTAL surprise!  I was worried because my kiddos were spending the night with them and they were responsible for making sure they were on time and not early for the party without spilling the beans.  They did great - and Clyde and Sylvia were totally surprised.  We were at a park and there was this totally awesome tree that my kids spotted and wanted to climb.  Guess who sat here for probably 70% of the day?

I have to say - she totally takes after her mother!  In fact when I called my mom after the party she even said - "Sounds familiar taking family pictures in the trees!"  I remember hanging out in my cousin's apple trees for like 3/4 of the summer!  All the trees at our house are Walnut trees - and they are no good for climbing.  The redbud right in front of our door has been the stage for many pictures - like the hide and go seek "base".  When I see them climbing it though I always tell them to get down - it is just a teeny little measly thing though!  This Oak was just prefect!  I want to get some pics printed and make a mini book or something out of them. 

Off I go - gotta get my face on and get to the church!

Friday - my NSD Make and Take

Todays card is the Make and Take I did at my crop on National Scrapbook Day.  I was featuring Julies DIY borders with the Crop-a-dile Big Bite! (See her YOUtube how to video or see more of her ideas here!)  I just LOVE this technique as I am one of those scrappers who truely SCRAPS!  I have a whole bin full of strips of cardstock.  I am always using them on my cards - but looking for new ideas always too!

I used my scorpal and lined my strip up at the 6" line and then scored the next two lines.  I then used those score lines as a guide to cut with my Cloud Edge scissors.  Then I used the Big Bit to punch the holes using Julie's technique in her video.

I had a bunch of the tag sheets left from my pattern paper packs - and was looking for ways to use them up.  Combining them with this border technique is great!  

I had this Make and Take also set up yesterday at CJ Banks in the mall - for a promo they are doing with our Local Flint Hills BreadBasket food drive.  They are offering 15% off for anyone who brings in a package of Spaghetti!  Plus they had an additional 40% off other sale items.  I went on a little shopping spree...

Today I am heading to Logans class for Beach Day - fun fun!  I made 25 cups of Blue jello with Swedish fish inside for snack.   They will have a pool to swim in and lots of other activities like water guns and sprinkler.  I wish it was HOTTER!   I will not be partaking in the swimming - but might have to tuck a watergun in my pocket so I will not be defensless...

Only 4 more days of quite at my house before the kiddos invade - I wish I could stay home and just ENJOY it!

This is my take on this weeks sketch.  I started with the color combo and stamps that I wanted to use.   I used Periwinkle 2 Matchmaker Cardstock with Lavendar Sachet Palette Ink.  Add a splash of black and you have got yourself a classy combo!  I wanted to use my Victorian Elements again - yes I admit is is my Favorite stamp set of the moment.  I am just LOVIN' all the bold Damask patterns you can create with them!  Couple them with the polkadot border from Friendship strips and that for me is pure bliss!  I used it on my Jewlery hanger project and have not been able to put those two sets down!  I also grabbed the words from one of the Spring Into May special stamp sets - and they are only available til the end of May!

I highlighted the script words with my Crystal Stickles just for a little bling!  I also edged all the pieces to rough em up.

SO today I am prepping for a Make and take and crop tomorrow at CJ Banks!  I am looking forward to a day of stamping and scrapping in their backroom - and offering a free make and take to anyone who wants to play!  They are having a food drive - if you bring in a package of Spaghetti - you get to do the free make and take AND you get an additional 15% off!  That is good on top of any other sales!  It is also good at Christopher and Banks too!  I will be there from 10AM til 2PM and returning by 5 or 6PM.  I hope if you are near the Manhattan Town Center Mall in Manhattan Kansas you will drop by tomorrow and see us!

I also wanted to give my thanks for the moral support alot of you gave after reading my Mother's Day post.  It is absolutely RIDICULOUS that so many Mom's have a crappy day on the one day of the year that should be specTACular!

I am about to do so myself - but first I am going to pull all my retiring stamp setsfrom the CD shelves I store all my stamps on!  I have been in denial for a few weeks with this list - I usually pull them all off my shelf right away so I can see what all will be gone soon.  But this time I am not ready to say good bye yet!  If you want to shop the list and see what all is on its way out AND 25% OFF - you can browse through them the easiest on my ismyangel secure shopping site - they are all pictured and listed with their sale price here!

What an exhausting weekend! The crop, vendor faire and school canival - and I am not even going to talk about Mother's Day.  I can't.  I just hope and pray that I never made my mom feel the way I did yesterday. I want a do-over! LOL!!! I hope that I can let it go and not make my husband and kiddos feel guilty for the rest of the days they walk the earth because it was seriously the WORST day ever.  I just have to say a few things though.  I think for me what really gets me right in the heart is that this is what defines me right now.  I am a stay at home MOM.  That is technically what I "do".   I guess once again I set myself up for dissapointment - I expect more than they are capable of doing - although this time I seriously was expecting the worst because my husbands Mother was on vacation and we always do Mother's Day with them.   All I want is a little validation from them - tell me they love me and how great a mom I am.  I know I am not perfect - but I do alot for them and I feel like they should appreciate me this ONE day a year.  The funniest thing - I actually had to ARGUE with my youngest that there was only ONE day - and he said there was one last year and there will be another one next year.  ARGH!!

Oh ya that's right -I said I was not going to talk about it didn't I?!?!  Raise your hand if you can relate - I am sure that it is a pretty universal feeling at one time or another.

Well off to stamp - and send my mom more lovin...

For my main piece I used a piece of the Chipboard stack - I LOVE THAT STUFF!!! It makes it so quick and easy to design a great chipboard project!  Then I just layered on some cardstock and embellishments.  I used the Colluzzle Blimp Alpha template to cut out my letter B - I am still in denial that provo has stopped making the colluzzle!  Did you know that you can use the exacto swivel knife with the colluzzle templates?  SO when your Colluzzle blades go bad - just buy an exacto swivel knife and refill blades for it - and you can rock on with your colluzzle.  (Ya I tried to just use the refills in my colluzzle knife - but they do not work!)

Well I hope you have a fnatastical Mother's Day tomorrow - I am excited to see how mine goes - especially since Eric's parents will be out of town!  (SO what will we do?  who knows!)

Wow - sorry for the delay in my posting this weeks sketch!  I had it done on Saturday - Thanks Sharon for the inspiration!  I however have not been home for long enought to write up the post!

So here it is - I hope you get a chance to give it t try!

It is a fun sketch - lots of layers and opportunities for embellishment - now which stamp will I use...?

Fun day today and tomorrow for me - I am working on my Card kit for May!  Be watching tomorrow night for a sneak peek.  Stamping Night out is Thursday, Logan's Field trip is friday along with the Wamego Friday crop night, and Saturday is the Spring Boutique in Clay Center KS and our School Carnival is Saturday night!!!  WOWZERS - I am tired just thinking about the next few days!  Good thing Sunday is Mother's Day - I might have to take a nap!
