Countdown to turkey time!

I have all the groceries, the turkey is defrosting, and I even found the yeast that i thought fell out of my cart at the grocery store!  (Ya, it fell into my sink of clean dishes when i put the potatoes away...)  I am SO ready for a feast tomorrow!  I should fast today or something to prepare huh!

As per usual my sketch card is coming out on Wednesday.  I think I will make it official and say that I will not be blogging on Tuesdays.  From today on my sketch will be posted on Monday and the card to go with it will come out on Wednesday.  There it's official now - and I can put the guilt of not posting on Tuesday right where it belongs - in the trash!

I actually designed this card to use up some of the abundance of scraps in my studio!  You can sub out the strip on the bottom for just about any length or width and it looks great.  I also like to use the strips to make these nifty little glossy glazed embellishment circles from scrap paper.  There is a great Anti-clogging tip for your Crystal Lacquer (AKA Diamond Glaze or Crystal Effects) bottles at the very end so scroll down atleast to check it out!  (And any other water soluable glue for that matter!)

So to go along with this card I wanted to show you how I made those cool little circle embellishments.  It is pretty easy but I of course have some OZ-some tips!

First start out with your pattern paper of choice.  I used a pattern that had circles in it and punched out the circles.  You can however use whatever pattern you want - I have done it with all sorts and they all look great.  Puch out your circles.

Next you will want to peel off the top protective layer from your Pop Dots that you will use for your punch outs.  I will need 3.  Then place your circles right on top of the pop dot.  It is MUCH easier to do this without even removing the dots from their sheet.

You can also do this with Glue Dots if you do not want the added height and dimension of the pop dot.

Once you have them on their dots then you will add the Crystal Lacquer.  By keeping them on their parent sheets it is much easier to keep them still when applying the crystal Lacquer.


Let them sit to dry - it will take them awhile!  Don't rush this or you will end up with finger printed Embellishments.  Experience talking here!!

Once they are dry you can just peel them off their paret sheet and stick them right to your project.  How cool is that???  YOU can even go ahead and make them up ahead of time when you have scraps of pattern paper and have the crystal Lacquer out.

Speacking of Crystal Lacquer!  (Also known and Diamond Glaze or Crystal Effects  I have a nice little tip to keep your tip from clogging.  When i finish a project I take a nice moist baby wipe and wipe off the top of the tip.

While I have the wipe squeezed on the top - I want to clean out the spout too.  With the bottle UPRIGHT just squeeze the bottle a little and let go, squeeze and let go.  (Be very light in your squeeze if you are working eith a full bottle - or the stuff will just come right out)  The moisture from the wipe will get sucked in and out of the spout and clean it right out.  Now when you store your bottle it must be kept upright as well, other wise the gunk will get up in there and dry out and clog your bottle.  It works like a charm - and I never have a clogged bottle of Crystal Lacquer.

Easy Peasy!

Ok my oldest son DJ just spotted the turkey in the fridge and he came in here and asked if we were going to have our own family dinner tomorrow.  When I amswered yes he said "SWEET!"  That boy is a sucker for Mashed Potatoes and Gravy.  He did ask if we were going to have Ham too - no no, sorry!  I wonder if I can talk the kids into peeling the potatoes tomorrow?

I hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving Day.  Take a moment to thank our Heavenly Father for all the blessings he has bestowed upon you and your family this year.  They are all from Him afterall!  I am hoping to compile a family top 10 list or something fun tomorrow with my family - if it goes well I will share.  If it doesn't I will never speak of it again....

Holy smokes - 50 sketches!  only 2 to go and it will be a whole year of weekly sketches I guess huh!  That just amazes me that it has gone so fast and that i have stuck to it this long.  Well here you go...

This weekend went by like a blur!  I had SO much fun Friday and Saturday scrapping with the Wamego girls and the Olathe trio!  (We missed you Vicki!)  It should be a crime to have this much fun and call it a job!  Don't tell my husband ok?   I think he knows already but I don't want to rub it in! 

I do not have much on my agenda this week - I missed our Scott Family Thanksgiving meal yesterday - so I plan to make the whole feast myself on Thursday for my family at home.  I am EXCITED!!!  I actually love to cook - and i mis my momma's stuffing!  SO I am going to do the whole shebang myself - and stuff my little turkeys!  (the kids that is!)  Funny thing - I asked the kids yesterday what their favorite thing was at grandma's for dinner and long said "The food!"  He is such a stinker.   Friday I will propbably still be doing dishes...  LOL!

Today I am off and running to Olathe for a FUNshop and crop with my FAV peeps I met at a Diva Designs Crop a year or so ago.  I am excited to spend an afternoon of papercrafting fun and have some cute make and takes planned for them.  We will be at the Community of Christ Chruch from 2-8PM - if you are in the area stop by and say Hi!

Tomorrow I am doing my very first craft show for my new line of button jewelry.  What you ask?  Hmmmmm??  You can check out a tiny slice of my creations in my etsy shop!This is a new adventure for me - one that I am VERY excited about!  I have rekindled my LOVE for wire sculpture that began in High School - and am translating it into jewelry.  The RINGS are super cool - but the pendants are even YUMMIER!  If you like vintage buttons or just a little BLING (or ALOT of BLING!) - you should check it out.  I mostly do custom orders - so I do not intend to put alot in the etsy shop.  In fact I am having a real hard time keeping enough stuff made up ahead to even put in the shop!  Check it out and drop me a note if you are interested in anything - they make GREAT Christmas presents!!!

Another Photo Cube!

I just LOVE this project that my friend Julie showed me - check out her Cube Carnival for lots of ideas on what to do with these great little Jewel Case CD Photo Cubes!  I loved them so much that I offered it as a class at the Crop Camp event a few weekends ago.  (I also have a few kits left over if you want one!)  I just LOVE how it turned out - I will be using mine to store Christmas cards in on the coffee table.  I am also considering this as a great gift for some of my family too!




I had fun with the Amelia paper cardstock and tags - and only added a few pieces of harware here and there along with some ribbon and scrappers floss.  If you have not seen these CD Photo Cubes before you have to check out Julie's video or the instructible by John Wik.

I am off for a night of papercrafting bliss tonight!  I have a stamp club to go to - yep as a GUEST!  I love these nights so much to be a guest instead of the teacher/expert.  Then I am having my monthly crop/creative escape in Wamego tonight at the Middle School with the Girl scouts!   I better get something to be working on together.  I ultimately want to go thru some pictures and do some actual SCRAPBOOKING!  GASP!!!  I KNOW!  I better get to getting if I am going to make that happen. 

I also have to make some famous PUMPKIN ROLL today too!  Busy Busy....

Sketch 49

Why do I think I can get that sketch card up on Tuesday?  I should just accept the fact that I need to get it done MONDAY if I want it to post on Tuesday.  Sounds like a good New Years Resolution huh?  This card is also one we will be making on Thursday at my LAST Christmas Card buffet!  That's right - this is the last one for the year.  I hope that it has helped everyone able to come get their Christmas cards done early - or atleast started anyway!  I know I am pretty close to being done myself!

I had fun coloring this one - I whipped out the ole shimmer chalks and blender pen.  I always get caught up with my colored pencils and forget to go for the chalks.  I wanted just a little sparkle so the shimmers were perfect.  If you like to cut things out - then you have got to get your hands on a pair of the Mini Kai Scissors!  They really are fantastic for cutting out tiny details!  Great for paper piecing.

Well I have a TON to get to today - including taking cookies to my sweet Logan's class.  Little man is 6 today!  I KNOW!  How the heck did that happen?  Good times right?  Tonight we are going out for dinner - and he gets to go with Dad to the K-state Basketball game.  They will have fun - even though Laney is going to go too!  (Logan said he wanted to go alone - and I do not blame him!) 

Monday Push

Today is the day to get the jump on the week right?  Well that is how I am feeling this week anyway!  I have been cleaning all morning and making birthday cake for my hubby!  But I figured I better take a few to post the sketch for this week!

This is going to be one of Christmas cards at the Christmas card buffet this thursday!  So you will get a sneak peak tomorrow when I post the card for the sketch. 

Today is Eric's birthday - so I made a cake for him - his fav yellow cake with chocolate frosting - yummy!  He wants me to make pizza tonight for dinner - so I have to start the dough soon too.  The kids are going to make him a card after school today and hopefully have fun doing it!  They love to get my stickles out so it could get interesting!

Cutest Mini Calendar ever!

If I do say so myself...

Isn't it just DARLING!!!  I especially love the ginormous spiral!  I know I could have used a smaller one but it screamed BIG SPIRAL at me!  This little ditty is so super EASY to do too!  You will need:

2 pages from a Mini Board Book
2 3x3 pieces of Pattern Paper
7 2 3/4 x 2 Brown Cardstock
1 complete calendar printed and punched out with the Giga Scallop Square Punch by Marvy (Click the name to order one for anyone who does not have access locally!)
1 section of Bind It All wire
Bind It All
Walnut Ink with Dauber Tops
Zip Dry Glue
Emery board or sanding block
Ribbons

I used the Willoughby collection for my calendar - Yummy!  You can download the calendar file here: Download calendarmini.pdf (0.0K) - be warned it prints 8 full calendars - so it will take 13 sheets of cardstock but you will end up with enough for 8 calendars.

Start by ripping 2 pages off your mini board book.  It is pretty easy to get them off the webbing on the spine.

Then using a walnut ink with Dauber top ink all the edges - oh so easy!  Also cover one side of each piece - this will be the inside and not seen part of your calendar.

Next adhere your pattern paper to the NOT walnut inked side of your board book pieces.  I used Zip Dry glue - which is fabulous for this type of project because it boogers up if you get it on the front of the paper or extra oozes out. (the excess will rub right off in other words!)  You can sand the edges of the paper to make them match right up - and if you do I would dauber the edges again to cover the white edge of the paper also.

Next punch all holes for Bind It All - you will do both the board book pieces and all the 2 3/4 x 2 cardstock pieces - along the 2" side.  These pieces will be the pages of the calendar that you will attach your calendar punch outs to.

Next insert the wire and bind your covers and pages together - do this BEFORE you add the calendar punch outs - to make it easier to NOT mess up the order!  I made the pages smaller than the covers by enough to have 2 wires on either side not being used by the pages.  This will allow you to flip the page without Messing up the ribbons we will tie on at the end!  Genius!   You will want to stack them with the pattern papers inside with the calendar pages in between.

After you have it bound together you can now attach the punch outs to the front and back of each page.  I wanted mine to go in order on one side and then you just turn int around and go back the other way for the rest of the year.  SO I started with my stack in order - and i took my first piece from the top of the pile (December 08)

and then took my next piece to attach to the back of that page from the BOTTOM of the pile (december 09). 

For the next page - top of the pile (January 09)
 
then bottom of the pile for the back of that page (november 09). 

And so on until I had the entire thing completed.  It sounds confusing - but it works!  Feel free to attach them however you want though if you do not get what I am saying!

Once all the pages are applied - you can now tie ribbons to the outside wire only.  You can do both sides - I like doing just one side.

And there you have it!  The most adorable Mini Calendar ever!

The ivory piece actually has swirls stamped with Haystack ink on it - you cannot see them in the picture - but they are there!  I really like this sketch - and was wondering when i was working on it why i labeled it the way I did!  I should have put the size for the middle piece and not the top and bottom pieces - which are actually the card itself!   I am working on a compilation of all my sketches and the cards that I made to go with them - available as a pdf for $5 - there are almost 50 sketches and ideas - but I am waiting to release it when I have 50.  Which should be in 2 weeks!  Is anyone interested in something like that?  It will be easy to print and save for future reference.  The sketch next to the card sample.

I will post tomorrow the mini Calendar that I did for my demo last month and the class at the crop this past weekend - which includes a downloadable pdf of the calendar pages!  They are perfect to use with the Giga Scallop Square punch!  Yummy!  I know I have been saying i will post it for weeks now - but tomorrow I promise!

Crop Camp ROCKS! and sketch 48

First our sketch!

I had the most fantabulous weekend!!!  Those Crop Campers are just OZ-SOME - even the trailer trash!!!  (or was it tramps??)  You really need to check out this crop and see if you can join us in February - YES I am going to go back!   You might think that $140 is expensive - but let me tell you - you get your moneys worth.  Meals and rooms included!!!  You would pay that just to stay in a hotel for the weekend!

I will share soon the classes we had at the crop - they were so much fun - and I hope everyone liked them! 

I have loads to catch up on - thank goodness not LAUNDRY!  SO I will post more later!

Here is my card for the sketch yesterday.  It did not turn out the way I wanted - but it is done right?  After I started with the Christmas colors (Reece Papers) I realized that I really wanted to make a fall card and not a Christmas one!  I decided to just go ahead woth what I had cut instead of changing directions.

Please ignore the extra flecks of embossing powder.  Yes my Xstatic pad was right there - but did I remember to swipe my piece before i stamped?  Of course not!  Looks more rustic that way right?  Ya I think so too.  It is a fun sketch - oh I just thought about the YUMMY snowflake punch that Dona and Vicki were playing with at our crop this weekend - that would be great for this sketch!

We are off to a football game in a few - eating at the game to support FFA.  I hope the wind dies down and it is not too cold.  I better put some long pants on though huh?  I was trying to wear my shorts and Capris for the last time these few warm days we have been having.  I am feeling a Long Cold Winter!  I gotta find my Cinderella cd....

I better get the kids together and get their hineys dressed too - the last time I saw Laney she had on a tank top!  That girl I swear she must be hot blooded like her daddy.  She got my stinky feet, his hot bloodedness - and i think the stubborness of - Oh i better not write that cuz i could get in real trouble!  :-)  We have made it 8 days without a major temper tantrum though so I am very proud of her and so releived to not have had to spend 2 hours listening to her scream.  I asked my mom - and i was a dream child - HONEST!  Now my sister on the other hand well - maybe that is where Laney gets it...
